October 20 i-mate Pocket PC reviewHey there bros and sistas!
One of my friends asked me about pocket PCs lately because she wanted to buy one as a present for herself because she did well thank GOD, and by pure chance I have just bought a pocket PC for my dad, it's an i-mate JASJAR and it's supposed to be like the mercedes of pocket PCs on the market in Egypt and so we did ...
I will go through the various functions and features in this geek toy and I'll try to be as comprehensive and concise as I can.
1- The Package:
The JASJAR comes in a bad looking blue box that actually is not trust worthy at all unlike the phone within as you'll find out later! the box contains the phone, it's charger, a very cheap earphone and ofcourse, the data cable. A big user manual is also there but I doubt you'll need it, the phone is pretty easy to use, but you may have to look once or twice in the quick user guide that's also in the box.
And by the way I forgot to say that the official price for this phone in Egypt is 6200 LE (but I bought it for less of course!).
2- Basic function:
The i-mate JASJAR is a powerful pocket PC that operates by means of Windows Mobile 5.0 OS, but basically it's a mobile phone, so before I began trying it I decided that if this heavy piece of hardware fails to be a good phone, I'm not gonna go on testing it! and so Istarted testing the darn thing and it was slowwww, even to use as a phone, slowwwww! but soon I discovered that this stupid windows mobile software was the reason, so I logged on the i-mate website in search for updates and I found one, downloaded it and installed it to the phone, and my GOD that piece of hardware can't even be a phone without that critical update available only for registered users on the official i-mate website. It does all the expected stuff, your all-function phonebook with contact photos and customizable ringtones and everything, nothing special to talk about except that the voice dialing isn't really voice specific, if anyone says the word correctly, it'll recognize it and dial the correct number which is kinda cool for me. The messaging is just fine too, MMS and SMS supported with all their features and managed via Outlook Mobile which is also preloaded on the phone.
3- Hardware:
It's a darn heavy piece of hardware, and a big one too, weighs about 285 gms, 12.7 cm in length, 8.1 cm in width, 2.5 cm in thickness, with an amazing 65K screen that is vibrant with color, and don't under estimate this babe cuz it's 65K, it's alot better than alot of 265K screens I have dealt with. The phone speakers are unfortunately of poor quality, their voice was so low, some ringtones are hard to hear, generally it's not that bad but not enough sound for the 6000 LE I paid. The touch screen is also amazing very precise once you caliberate it correctly the first time you start up the phone (P.S. the touch screen is that same display screen! don't fall under the impression that the phone has two screens!). also there's a slot for SD memory cards that worked just fine with the Kingston 1GB card I bought for the phone.
4- Software:
As I said before, the version of windows mobile 5.0 that's preloaded on the phone sucks big time, it consumes the phone resources and sucks them dry till the phone stops working, and you have to soft reset it every five minutes, and there's only one solution to this which is to go register your piece at imate.com and download the upgrade before you go crazy, because this is a great piece of hardware being humiliated by stupid software as WM5. The upgrade significantly improves the phone and makes it operable.
The PDA comes preloaded with Word Mobile, Excel Mobile and many other useful programs including Al Moaazzen and full arabic language support (input/output), but ofcourse I recommend some programs like Spb Pocket PC plus which is indispensible to any windows mobile phone at least to cancel the smart minimize thingy (smart minimize is a real stupid thing that microsoft invented which is when you click the close button fora program, it doesn't really close, it keeps on in the background so that when you re-open the program it supposedly opens faster, which doesn't happen because the open programs in the background actually end up cluttering your RAM and slowing the thing down until it stops working completely, then you have to do i again ... soft reset the phone!) but spb PPC plus renders the close button a real one, tap close and the program REALLY closes!
5- Camera:
The imate JASJAR is equipped with two cameras, one's up front below the screen, which is a small VGA camera designed mainly to be used in 3G video calling, and for capturing videos and it's good at doing its job, but don't expect videos to be better than any other phone. The other camera is at the back of the phone with a small flashlight right beside the lens, it's a 1.3 Megapixel cam and it's also very good at doing its job, and it even has a 2 MP option to capture photos in a bigger size.
6- Last words:
I like this phone, it's not perfect but you can live with it. Just like every human being in this world! it's a human phone! but it's also efficient enough to be relied upon, it may require a soft reset every day or two (sometimes three...) but that's only at the beginning of it's use in the phase when you're all crazy about it and just tryin it and putting software on it all the time, but once you settle down with your favorite software, the phone is quite solid and it'll serve you good. Last but not least, I wish this phone was operated via palm or any new experimental linux system (call it "Mobuntu" or something ...) cuz this WM5 is the worst thing since Tsunami or 9/11 or something!
For full device specifications visit http://www.gsmarena.com/i_mate_jasjar-1262.php October 17
September 25 Vista baby!Hey there! It's been a long time since I've last posted something ... it's because I had these stupid finals at my college and I did nicely but I actually haven't finished yet and I'm posting this cuz I'm bored outta my skull! I just wanted to say that I've been trying to get windows vista on my laptop lately but I failed to get hold of a decent copy, so I asked myself "what do I want from windows vista?" the answer was the cool clean look, nothing more. So, as usual I sniffed for a solution over the web on my spare time and I found something called the vista transformation pack and another thing called vista skin for MSN messenger live, and I will leave the screen shots to tell you about the results! March 31 Cardiac cycleI found this great website about the cardiac cycle, may it be useful inshalla.
September 24 Ramadan, Horraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay !Hi ppl ... how's it goin with y'all?
I'm great! top notch! ecstatic ! Ramadan is here, so y shouldn't I be ?
I love the month, I dunno, although you're hungry and thirsty all the time, and it's gonna be a lil harder this year cuz of the hot weather, but probably the idea that you're pleasing your GOD, purifying your body, and sharing good habits with other brother and sister muslims around the world, it's just so perfect ...
This Rmadan I intend ISA to read a lotta quran and pray alot and everything but I wont let my religious duties overwhelm my secular duties like taking more care of my family and friends and studying as I should, cuz that's what Islam is all about.
I've also been doing some reading lately, I'm now reading Dan Brown's "the da vinci code" , a brilliant story, I recommend reading it. Also there's this really useful website that gives you different strategies that will help you with your studying, here it is: http://www.studygs.net , also a highly recommended thing to do, very useful.
Tomorrow I'm gonna get busy, cuz I have college mornin and a private lesson in the afternoon, and with the long waited for match between Ahly and Zamalek, tomorrow is a charged day!
I'll c ya soon ppl! September 20 Muslim christian dialogue!Hello again guys! I've been away from my space for a long long time, and i guess you saw that coming as I told you i was starting my 5th year in med skool saturday 17th, and I did ... it's okay till now, 3 days cant give you a hint about the whole year so i'm really having fun, and no studying at all!! A loooooooooooooooooot of thanx go to Karim, ma buddy, you're great man! and I'm honored to have you posting on ma space .... for Nada ofcourse, she's become the first officer on this ship and she's well earned her position in here! I have a gift for you all ... the best and most comprehensive and decisive Muslim christian dialogue ever! go read it y'all, then talk some more! and here's the link: http://www.iad.org/books/MCD.html
hope this will be useful inshalla, and may GOD lead us all to the right path. September 12 Dangerous Lands ...hi there people reading this ... I'm sure I love you all !
it's not like Usama Bin Laden is ever gonna read this!
anyways,
As usual THE_REAL_MIGHTY_NADA baldly explores new lands ... this time ... read the blog title!
i was really fast replyin to your comment cuz i'm actually at my last days of the summer vacation as i said before and i'm goin nuts! so dont expect me to reply this fast again! lol, but i promise (and i've kept ma promises so far) that i'll do ma best to keep this alive ... I'm also used to read what anyone writes in a comment very thoroughly and analyse it to points and hence be able to discuss different aspects of the issue separately and be able to emphasise my point of view in the best way possible, and it makes me ecstatic and really proud to be answering to anyone who comments to my blogs, especially you Nada, becuz you ARE indeed a special person ...
Captain history is not just a bunch of ppl lookin back and sayin "Oh! lord that's a war and that isn't!", it's more of the experiences of people and countries and it's a well agreed upon concept, i mean no two people would disagree on the definition of a war (except for you and me ofcourse!!), also the definition of war through the experiences of others, through history, could have never concentrated on societies and over looked individual disputes becuz we're still talking about people in here! those who described wars are people, and they have their own troubles and problems but though, none of them has ever described his troubles as wars, only as a figure of speech! and as for the greif stricken parent whose daughter has been raped, he cant kill! although it's a horrific act of rape and of his own daughter ... the law will punish him, and religion will condemn him, and he cant kill! but there are authorities who will do their best to punish the rapist! and it isnt war that his daughter was raped! it maybe a psycological catastrophy to him, and that just leads us again straight to the figure of speech part if you describe this as a war! and you cant say that personal problems are wars or we would have all been livin in a constant war! i hope i have made a point in here, we shouldnt mix up definitions with figures of speech ...
one other thing about war .. figting for land is not always to fullfil a power hungry man's greed! GOD has created us different, different in race, color, character, lots and lots of differences between us, and he has created us that way in order to meet up and get to know each other and enrich each other, build our world together and stuff like that, not to fight each other, but though, man was created greedy and it's something man should fight in himself, some ppl fai lto do so and try to steal some more land to themselves and hence GOD has given us permission to defend what's rightfuly ours.
Also these modern issues that you have mentioned like "euthanasia" and "abortion", they are clearly discussed in Islam as general rules, as for example abortion is only permitted in some conditions by the Islamic concept "al daroorat tobee7 al ma7zoorat":"necessities permit forbiddens" , so when abortion is a must, like the baby will have a severe deformity that is gonna kill him anyway with no known cure, or pregnancy that entails danger to the mother's life, in such situations Islam actually permits abortion (and doesnt oblige us to do it), about euthanasia, i know it was permitted in many countries like australia and the netherlands but Islam forbids it as it is concidered as giving up on GOD's mercy, as long as the patient is living and has a brain pattern we shouldnt give up on him, but it isn't a final decision i suppose as Islamic theologians are still debating this issue, but this with the abortion it's final.
Also about the holy manuscripts, how could they be holy if they aint perfect?! Quran is the perfect book, and that I guarantee to you, it hasn't left any small issue or a large one without giving us guidance about it, even if by giving general instructions, one of the sa7aba (Mohammed Rasulullah's (PBUH) friends) said that if he lost a sheep he would look for it in GOD's holy book the Quran! ofcourse this is extremism and meant to be a figure of speech, but it signifies that Quran has the answer to everything, even scientific dilemma's, i dunno if you have heard this information, but the stages of embryo formation are discribed in detail 1426 years ago before anyone had ever known them! and here's the aya so you can make sure of it:
Surat al Mo'menoon (the believers): verse 14
also it is correct to evolve with our thinking but not the rules, the rules must stay the same and that's what holy books are made for, to set rules and to help us evolve without breaking the rules, and i totaly disagree with you that there are imperfections within Quran, or Islam wouldn't have been the right and true religion (deenul 7ak).
--------------- I know how to spell fourth, I just slip the "u" sometimes, thank u! -----------
And about unrecorded events of conversion out of Islam, coversion of religion is a major issue in here, you have no idea, revolutions happen over a woman converting from christianity to Islam (Egypt is not an Islamic country) and TV shows are made over israeli jews becoming muslim shaykhs and building mosques in the united states! so when a person converts, everybody will know no matter how small that person is ... and since human beings are human beings then i suppose if it doesnt happen here, then it's not likely to happen anywhere else ...
Elections are fake and politics is bullcrap! and it seems i'll get through next year if i dont get a severely infectious disease and die alone somewhere between the endless crowds of students in the college, but till this happens I'll keep blogging and I'll keep bugging you with endless trivial talks and stupid pictures about me and my boring or exciting life, depends on the typa person u r .....
till the next sunrise on our polluted stratosphere! tata beloved ones!
Amir (wanting to sleep and in a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally good mood!) September 11 Now that's what i call a comment!people u better read nada's comments .. measure the volume .. and learn !
or i guess u betta learn how da use the keyboard cuz the gurl sure can type !
anyways,
i'm really enjoying this ya nada, finally a chance to have a good talk ...
it really is quite an intellectual discussion, and u picked one hell of a subject! there are many points of view to it , actually there's a point of view for every speaker so it's really hard to get a settlment about it ...
the first point u mentioned about the misinterpretations and the little guy determining what war is and isnt ... you're right about that, there isnt a little guy ... but there's a big guy! ya there is ! a big guy called history! history is what determines what a war is, there are even subclasses of wars, like civil wars and cold wars, a war is simply an armed dispute between two huge poles (armed by weapns or by economic and political forces), a war between u and your family is not a real war, describing it with the term war is a figure of speech to show how profound the dispute between you and your family! but technicaly speaking, it isnt a war unless there are victims and extensive effects on other peoples lives!
second point is ... actually it isnt a real point but you said that it seemed as if u wre attacking Islam, I know u arent, u're just gathering different points of views to get to the truth or what seems right to you and wht's compatible with your ideologies, such thinking is described as islamic thinking by the most famous muslim scholar in the world "shaykh hamza yusuf", he meant that those who search for the truth by discussion and listening to others are taking the direct rout to islam and he said that they are cocidered muslims even if they dont pronounce the shahada they are muslims within their hearts...
third: it is a weird and a good coincidence that today is september 11th, that we're having this discussion, although i dont like that day anymore as it brings the memories of this horrific accident which is condemned by any reasoning mind and not by islam only ...
forth ... i need to say that the 3 points mentioned were not mentioned by me, they were mentioned by ma friend ahmad khaled and alot of thanx go to him for giving us such a nice peice of information, it's totaly true what he said , and yes nuber three is actually verrry extreme if u just stop at what ahmad said, but the truth is this isnt all ... Murtadd is someone who left islam after saying the shahada and submitting to GOD, he's a waste of blood in Islam! pretty extreme huh? lol , but as i said that's not what's to it, as u said if islam was that good then no one would leave it , and that's actually what happens, no incidence has ever been recorded that someone went into islam and left it becuz he wasnt convinced or found mistakes or something like that, the only thing that made ppl leave islam was that they prefered to follow their instincts, their need for sex and money in any means necessary was too much! they were in Mohammed rasool allah's (PBUH) era and there was a war called 7arb al reddah through which the muslims hunted those ppl down and actually killed them all, that was because these ppl were concidered liars to GOD and to the muslim community as they said they beleived in GOD and that they submitted to him, then they just stopped being so when prophet mohamed (PBUH) died! all becuz they wanned to return to wine drinkin, fornication, slavery and all the practices that islam has prevented them from doing! but other than that, noone has ever left Islam, the reddah thing is happening again these days as i heard that poor (having no money) muslims in egypt now are being bought by christian missionaries coming from the states loaded with money, i'm not sure if this is true, i hope it's not ......
fifth and last but not least ... this isnt really a worn track, and even if it is, at least it's the right track, and nothing makes me happier than strollin down it again and again ......
keep up the commenting and i'll try to keep up the bloggin as long as i have time to do so, pray that i do have enough time cuz u know, skool is next saturday and i can never know what's gonna happen on a new college year in egypt!
people keep the comments plz cuz u have no idea how good they make me feel!
lotsa thanks to nada, khaled and riham ....
C ya soon dear friends!
P.S: i dunno if u have heard about the presedential elections going on in here, but president MUBARAK got re-elected for the next 6 years! i actually elected no one cuz i heard the elections are still not honest and becuz i and everybody else were 200% sure that president MUBARAK would win this one cuz actually others suck ... A gift for those who comment!first ..... RIHAM ADEL commented:
she saidf nothing of importance and had no requests but it made me extremely glad to know that she reads ma blog, it's something to be proud of!
second .... THE_REAL_MIGHTY_NADA:
she said that i mention her on ma blogs so she comments! what a wit! she's wrong ! lol ... ya nada u're an adorable character and i only mention u cuz u impress me and i really like u .... by the way ppl nada's ma cousin .... she also had an opinion about islam (and every other religion i think):
"why is islam the right and true religion, the major religions are all branches of a similar viewpoint to try and get people to live safely and happily, they just have slight differences, why should good people who happen to believe in something else go to hell ??? "
ofcourse i agree with her that religions are there to get ppl to live happily and to encourage solidarity between groups and ppl for a safer and more secure community, but i disagree that all religions are branches of the same point of view, on the contrary they are different points of view of the same concept which is the presence of a higher entity which created everything and earned the right to be worshiped by the human race ... also your question about what makes islam the right and true religion; Islam is the only thing that ever made enough sense to me! i mean i have read about christianity and the concept of trinitarianism and that god sacrifices himself or his son for humanity, but only Islam was simple enough for me to comprehend, also Islam is "deenul fetrah" the native religion, which means it's the path that was created with u since u were born, and it is ! read the sharee3a and you'll know it is! nothing made up and u'll feel that nothing is strange to your principals and beleifs, really ... also i wanna say i'm not as religious as u think i am, i always condemn what my human nature refuses and it always turns out that it's something refused by islam as well!
last but not least, we muslims arent allowed to say that everybody else will go to hell, it's something forbidden and hated in the islamic practice, but it's true that it is written in the holy book - the quran - but then it's something that GOD said, which means we cant argue with that actually! it is a GODLY decision to burn all those who worship anything or anyone else besides GOD or other than HIM ... not my decision !
also Islam doesnt give us the right to kill none muslims only becuz they are! if GOD wants them in hell, HE can send a hurricane or an earthquake or even burn them in hell after doomsday, but us muslims all we can do is give advice and spread peace .... and that's actually what islam is all about!
Third and last ... AHMAD KHALED:
the guy comments all the time on every blog i write, he's a dear friend, actually a best friend ... thanks man for being there all the time! and keep playing the crims kwayyes ... bel monasba el respect bta3ak ba2a kam ?
"check his blog at: http://spaces.msn.com/members/ahmedkhaled"
c ya next blog peeeeeeeeps ! and if there's anything u wanna tell me comment and i promise i'll answer! Post Matroo7 blog (part 7) - A last wordwell it is a last word ......
cuz i think a lot of things slipped off ma mind in the last blogs tellin u about this great trip, for example there was this one day where we went to lybia marketplace and we asked about the prices of stuff we liked but we bought nothing, there was a lot of new things especially the shoes and sneakers section was rich this year, but the prices were alot worse than last year, but we went again probably the next day or somethin to buy stuff and we got nice deals and i bought 4 T-shirts 2 for me and 2 for ma bro, i was with ahmad khaled the whole time in the market and mamdoo7 and taher were together so when we went home taher discovered they forgot a t-shirt at one of the vendors! so the next day morning (which was the day of our departure to cairo) he had to go their with mamdoo7 again to get their forgotten shirt, and they did it, and in the same time mamdoo7 won a good bargain on an excellent pair of shades (sun glasses), which was a good thing ...
then we got on the bus which had no lights, no video, and no A/C ! we just opened the windows ! it was a very exhausting trip but we slept through it and i woke up some time near the end of it to listen to the quran on the radio, so it was okay all in all, we arrived to cairo at about 11:45pm, found ma dad waiting for me with yousef and yosra infront of the university door and they took me home.
before that also there was that day where we took pix at dawn and sunrise in cloepatra area, but u can check that out in da photos, i know u wont be able to recognize them but what can i say? the hell with it! lol
and that wraps it up guys ! i hope i wasnt as boring as i thought i was!
stay tuned for more blogging, the new scholar year is beginning and it's gonna be incredible!
c ya later ! September 10 Post Matroo7 blog (part 6) - Truck and pulldozer.hi again ..... startin to get bored huh ? okay .....
this time it's cool .......
we went to obayyed again .... the best beach i ever layed eyes on it was different this time, we wanted to repeat the game we played last time, the wrestling thingy cuz it was really amusing, but once we did it seemed really boring this time, probably becuz we seemed somehow fewer this time or something, dunno , we were startin to get bored when all of a sudden the mighty vikings or the mongols i dunno a stampede just got in the sea ... they were big, they were strong, they were alot, they were ... students of the faculty of agriculture! they were shouting "AAAAAAAAAAAeeeEEEEEEEEEE" !they carried every single person in the sea and on the shore and threw him in the water (i got thrown) .... the attendants got thrown, other guys got thrown every body got thrown in the water, it was a throwing frenzy! only khaled and doo7a escaped by swiming deeper into the sea, at least for a while ! cuz after 10 minutes or so mamdoo7 got ambushed by Hafez the human pulldozer and Mamdoo7X2 the human truck and they got him and flipped him 3 times! but they didnt get ahmad khaled untill he got tired and he wanted to get out of the water and ....
Hafez caught him .
he dragged him on the sands of the beach till his nape was all reddend and hot! then he threw him on the ground infron of the attendants and pinned him together with the 200 Kgs Mamdoo7X2 the human truck then they ... well i wont continue cus it makes my eyes get wet ..... from laughter !!!!!! aaaaaaaahhhhhhahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!!
after we did the first aids to him and made him concious again (juz kiddin, he never lost conciousness, it was all a joke) we went back to the camp and he slept like a beaten up baby !! then we went to the cinema and watched two movies for the price of one! the first was called "boo7a" it was hilarious, extremely funny ... we laughed our guts out, and the other one was called "7arb Atalia" ("the war of Italy") it was an Ocean's eleven style of movies and it was reaaaaaaaaaaally good probably the best egyptian production i have ever seen in my life, excellent ..... we finished by 1am and we took the bus to the camp but some ppl were left behind , Mamdoo7X2 the human truck for instance, but he was good enough not to make a fight over it, but we did it for him, we fought with the attendants cuz they left him behind, and we covinced them that it was their fault and we got an appology from the camp Leader ....
Next is a sunrise .......... c ya then! |
